more about me

World travelin’, sustainability guru, humanitarian, foster and adoptive mommin’, photographer, photobooth-er, educator, multiple hat wearing entrepreneur. This girl’s love language is hugs and her tank is filled by serving others. You can find her under a palm tree, on a mountain, renovating a vintage trailer/house or running through the sprinklers with her husband, two boys and three fur babies.

Jenny… a previous college volleyball player with me at Graceland University, and Austin, also a mens volleyball player at Graceland (the height) were so ridiculously fun planning their engagement session. We not only tried twice to get this shoot done due to storms, but three times. The second time, we thought it was a go, Austin’s family grilled out and we were going to get started, and down came the rain. The only time it seemed to be NOT raining, was at 6am each morning. So what did we do…?   Yes, we had a slumber party, at all the burgers for dinner the night before, saved a couple for the a.m. shoot and woke up at sunrise to get the coolest part of the day. Doesn’t everyone grill burgers for breakfast?

I think the coolest part of this session, was that Jenny and Austin planned this whole thing-detail by detail-themselves. At their wedding next March, they will be serving BBQ, so it was only necessary to capture the theme here. And of course, each little detail has a meaning. The blanket was an old quilt passed down through the family, the frames were given to Jenny as a Christmas gift from her cousin for their wedding day, the Wine bottle was the first wine Jenny and Austin bought together, and when he proposed (also for a sunrise photoshoot), the ribbons tied around the bottle were what Austin tied the rings to so he wouldn’t lose them while preparing to propose. The flowers, all hand picked from Austin’s mom and dad’s beautiful garden by Jenny’s sister, and don’t forget the adorable “kiss the cook” DIY apron, designed by Jenny and her sister the night before the shoot. The lemons were fresh, the lemonade tart, and the delicious fries cooked by dad (and I do say, they were very good). The shoot also took place in the backyard of Austin’s stomping grounds. Needless to say, we had some great subjects who went above and beyond to get some super creative shots for the e-session.

And I was honored to be apart of the Isham BBQ dinner and slumber party to catch up on life and love, sports and just about anything and everything going on in all our busy lives. Austin is currently studying to be a physical therapist, and Jenny,  in her books as always studying her medicine. I’m so proud of them both for working so hard, perusing their college sports and still leaving time for their family and of course.. a fun photo shoot.   I hope you all enjoy their photos and their awesome story. See Austin’s proposal story here.
